In Your Yard

The grass is always greener on the side of environmental stewardship.

Better Ground offers ideas and incentives for creating a home, yard, and/or garden that is good for you, your family, and the environment. Learn from other homeowners how to make your landscape easier to care for and more enjoyable.

From lawn to landscape

Nora Carlson and Lora Hein partnered with their local district to create something truly special on their property: a rain garden. A rain garden is made of high organic soil and beautiful, hardy, low-maintenance native plants that can withstand both drought and high rains.

Whether you would like to get rid of lawn, create a backyard habitat, or implement drainage solutions, your local District can help.

Live Near the Shore?

With support from Snohomish Conservation District and the Department of Ecology, Whidbey Island Conservation District developed a guide for homeowners living near or on the shoreline in Washington. You’ll learn about the watershed you live in, as well as actions you can take to protect water resources on your property and in your community.
