Highlight

Whidbey CD knows local farms are a vital resource in local food resiliency, and has programs to assist the ag community in learning about and implementing conservation practices, supporting beginning farmers on the island, strengthening the local agricultural markets, and connecting the farm community.

They provide resources and information regarding farm practices that benefit both farmers and the environment, such as cover cropping, manure and mud management, and pasture management. Whidbey CD creates voluntary farm plans with farmers so they can implement conservation practices and provides cost-share opportunities on some conservation projects.

In partnership with WSU Extension Island County, Whidbey CD also provides a monthly potluck and educational presentation for local farmers and others in the ag industry to network and learn together, called the “Whidbey Island Growers Association.” They also support the Whidbey Island Grown Cooperative and other organizations working to keep local farms viable and resilient.
