King CD educates landowners, schools, scientists, consultants and agencies in how to recognize problems and avoid creating them. They also promote conservation through projects, events, and technical assistance. In some cases, the district can provide or point the way to funds which may be available for projects.
King CD’s service area includes 34 cities and all of unincorporated King County, excluding Enumclaw, Federal Way, Milton, Pacific and Skykomish.
King CD has expanded its rural forest health management services to provide a range of wildfire resiliency services to help homeowners and communities prepare for wildfire. This work is being done with funding through the King CD Working Lands Initiative (WLI) and in partnership with the King County Forestry Program.
The wildfire resiliency services offered by King CD include site visits to conduct wildfire risk assessments of individual homes or communities, Firewise Community Action Plans for communities interested in implementing forest fuels reduction projects, and Wildfire Resiliency planning for forest landowners.
