Highlight
San Juan Islands CD operates the Community Solar for Our Schools Program, installing solar arrays on schools on Orcas, San Juan, Lopez, and Shaw Islands. They’ve partnered with Bonneville Environmental Foundation, who is now incorporating energy efficiency and renewable energy programs in classrooms. When the installed Solar PV systems produce more power then is being used, the excess power is automatically sent to the OPALCO grid.Â
San Juan Islands CD also operates an Island Youth Conservation Corps, a youth education program engaging youth in meaningful work combined with an impressionable educational experience, while instilling a work ethic and providing an avenue to employment particularly in the care and stewardship of the natural environment. Additionally, it provides an avenue for youth to engage with agency partners and natural resource managers by contributing to the community where all can grow and thrive together.
